This is exactly what's happening to Anthropic's supercomputers, who must now feel like awkward teenagers standing next to a bodybuilder cousin.


AWS and Anthropic have decided that size is indeed everything – at least when it comes to computing power. With "Project Rainier," they're planning a supercomputer so gigantic that even Chuck Norris would be jealous. Five times larger than the previous cluster? 

That's more scaling up than my waistline after a Christmas dinner!

The Numerical Orgy of Superlatives

Hundreds of thousands of Trainium2 chips will be built into this technological monster. Hundreds of thousands! That's more chips than I've eaten potato chips in my entire life – and believe me, that's saying something. 

These chips are so powerful they could probably not only perform calculations but also sort my tax advisor's folder on the side.


David Brown from AWS announces this with the excitement of a child unwrapping a Christmas present: "For models with almost trillions of parameters, we need a novel approach!" Translated, that means: "We've created a technological behemoth so large it would put Godzilla to shame!"

And because that doesn't sound generous enough, Amazon is investing another 4 billion dollars in Anthropic. 4 billion! That's more money than I could ever imagine. For comparison: With this budget, you could easily buy the entire Bundesliga – including substitute players, coaches, and the referee's headset.


The partnership is so close that you could almost speak of a technological marriage. AWS becomes Anthropic's cloud partner – and that sounds more romantic than probably intended. "Honey, I'm hosting your data" – romantic whispers in the year 2024!

What Does This Mean for Us Mere Mortals?
